*Part-time dairy farm milker needed*


We are looking to hire a part-time dairy farm milker. Approx. 5 hours per
day. (approx. 5:30 am - 8 am and 3:45 pm - 6:15 pm). We have a 45-cow herd
with milking in a parallel parlor setting. Paying $14.50/hour. Must have
own transportation and be punctual. Experience preferred but willing to

*Information sessions about Animal Welfare Judging and Assessment Contest*



The Animal Welfare Judging and Assessment Contest will take place at Ohio
State University from November 12-13. Students interested in participating
are asked to send an email to mcockram at upei.ca by *September 22*.The AVC
Animal Welfare Club will hold a lunchtime information session about the
contest on* Monday, September 19*, in Lecture Theatre A. There will also be
an opportunity to get further information, ask questions, and discuss the
contest in Room 280N at *12.30 p.m. on Thursday, September 22*. For more

Keith Lawlor, Manager of Scholarships, Awards, and Financial Aid for UPEI,
will be conducting additional scholarship information sessions at the times
outlined below, where he  will discuss 1st and 2nd semester cycle
applications, UPEI's Celebrating Student Achievement program, the George
Coles Bursary program, and answer any questions pertaining to scholarships
and awards. Please encourage your students to attend one of the following

Captain Nichola K.S. Goddard Scholarship

1st - (1 x $2500) Awarded to a student in any faculty who is engaged in a
project with focus on issues relevant to indigenous peoples whether in
Canada or internationally. The project should be for academic credit at
UPEI. Proposal must include a description of their project and a timeline.

Harry MacLauchlan Scholarships in Entrepreneurial Leadership

(3 x $5000, renewable) Open to full-time UPEI students entering 3rd year in
any school/faculty, who has demonstrated entrepreneurial initiative through
past or current experience, has plans to undertake an entrepreneurial
career on PEI, and has achieved a minimum of 75% or greater in their first
two years of study. For renewal in 4th year, recipients must have achieved
academic standing of 75% or greater in the previous year, and provide an
update report on the status of their business venture.

MacLauchlan Prizes for Effective Writing

Thunder Cove Breast Cancer Award

1st - (1 x $2000) Awarded to an undergraduate or graduate student who has
an expressed interest in pursuing a project directly related to the care,
prevention and/or cure of breast cancer.

*Nutrition symposium with Dr. Jackie Parr on Sept. 23*

Please join us on *Friday, September 23, **5-9 pm*, for a Nutrition
Symposium with Dr. Jackie Parr! We will begin with an in-depth overview on
how to perform a nutritional assessment on each and every patient. Dr. Parr
will then focus on gastrointestinal (GI) diseases and appropriate
management strategies for dogs and cats. All AVC veterinary students,
interns, residents, graduate students, technicians, and veterinarians are
welcome!

*Cat-sitter needed **Sept. 29-Oct 2*

Jennifer White is looking for someone to care for her cat while she is away
from *September 29th to October 2nd*. The person must be willing to stay
overnight. Payment is $100.00 for the 3 nights/4 days.

Eddi is a handsome, very sweet and cuddly 13-year-old cat who has developed
some heart and kidney issues over the last couple of years. As a result, he
takes medication twice a day (morning and evening). He is very easy to pill
and other than this is very low maintenance, but does get lonely and a
little down if he spends overnights or extended amounts of time alone. See
attached photo.

*Animal Welfare in Practice 2016: Sheep Welfare*

Please join us from *Sept. 30-Oct. 1* to learn about sheep welfare, with an
emphasis on putting the NFACC Code of Practice into action to improve sheep
welfare. Speakers are Drs. Paula Menzies (Ruminant Health Management Group,
U of Guelph) and Michael Cockram (AVC), and Mr. Andrew Hebda, NS Purebred
Sheep Producers.

Detailed program and registration form are at awc.upei.ca. The conference
is hosted by the SJDAWC and AVC Animal Welfare and Small Ruminant Clubs,
with assistance from the Animal Welfare Foundation of Canada.
