Deadline coming up for 2017 Dr. Tim Ogilvie AVC Vet Camp

Ever wonder why a cow has four stomachs?  Why snakes feel cool? How fish
breathe underwater? If you want to learn more about animals, the Dr. Tim
Ogilvie AVC Vet Camp is the place for you. Join us for an interactive, fun,
and engaging adventure into the world of veterinary medicine.

Junior camps (grades 7-9) are scheduled for July 10-14 and July 17-21;
senior camps (grades 10-12) take place from July 124-28 and July 31-August
4.

*The deadline to apply is March 10*. Camp information and an application

AVC Wildlife Service to hold fundraising event

The AVC Wildlife Service will hold its first Midwinter Pub Night for
Wildlife at Upstreet Craft Brewing, 41 Allen Street, Charlottetown, on
Thursday, March 2, 2017, from 7–11 p.m.

AVC Community Workshop on end-of-life issues with companion animals

Dr. Peter Foley, Assistant Professor, Small Animal Internal Medicine,
Atlantic Veterinary College, will give a public workshop on Thursday, March
9, at 7 pm, about end-of-life issues with companion animals.

AVC alumnus stars in “The Adventures of Dr. Buckeye Bottoms”

Dr. Bartholomew “Buckeye” Bottoms, AVC Class of 2004, is the star of “The
Adventures of Dr. Buckeye Bottoms,” a NatGeoWild program set in Hawaii.
Since 2007, Dr. Bottoms has been a mobile veterinarian for the Hawaiian
islands of Maui, Lanai, Molokai, Kauai, and the Big Island. Accompanied by
his dog, Kevin, he travels throughout the islands to treat sick
animals—large and small. Dr. Bottoms received his B.S. in Animal Science
from California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo in 2000.
After graduating from AVC in 2004, he worked in Santa Cruz, California, as
a mobile large animal veterinarian until 2006. To learn more, go to NAT GEO

Registered veterinary technician at AVC wins award

Congratulations to Natalie Price, RVT,  on winning the Eastern Veterinary
Technicians Association (EVTA) PEI Technician of the Year Award 2016.
Natalie is a specialized technician (VTS-certified) in anesthesia, and has
been a valued team member in AVC’s Veterinary Teaching Hospital for more
than fifteen years. Shown here, Jennifer MacEachern (left), a member of the
EVTA, presents Natalie with her award.
Welcome back to AVC, Dr. Mike West!

When Dr. Mike West, DVM, was growing up, he had pets but no inkling that he
would become a veterinarian—until his third year at Dalhousie University.
