We have identified an issue with the new SALTO system with respect to
initial use. The system requires card activation. Fortunately, UPEI
Facilities Management has come up with a simple and straightforward
solution.

For current card holders, UPEI ITSS was able import current campus ID card
information into the new SALTO system. As a result, if you currently have
the updated campus ID card as shown here:
http://www.upei.ca/vpaf/campuscard you
simply need to follow this procedure: The first time you use a SALTO access
point (there are a number throughout the building now) you will have to *hold
your card in proximity to the device for approximately 8 seconds*. There
is a light around the device that will flash during that time. The light
will turn green after the unit has identified/activated your card. The
next time you use your card the light will turn green and entrance granted
almost immediately.

If you have not gotten your updated card, ie if your card doesn’t look like
this one http://www.upei.ca/vpaf/campuscard you will have to first
get an updated
card at the Chi-Wan Young Sports Centre or the Registrar's Office and then
go to the Security Services Office (Monday - Friday 8:00am - 4:00pm) to
have your card initially programmed.
