Re:  1) The Pickard and Simmons Brothers Scholarships (2 available);

       2)  The John and Carol MacLeod Externship Award;

       3) The Elanco Canada Externship Award

*These awards have been established to assist in offsetting costs
associated with external clinical rotations for DVM students during their
final year of the program. *

· Two Pickard and Simmons Brothers Scholarships will be given
annually to third-year students in veterinary medicine who intend to
participate in an external rotation(s) during their senior year at AVC.
Each award is valued at approximately $3,000 (based on interest earned) and
will be presented at AVC’s Fall awards and Recognition Night during your
final year (October, 2019). To assist in the selection process for these
awards, interested students are asked to submit a brief outline of their
proposed external rotations during their senior year. At a minimum this
should include the geographic location and length of each rotation,
estimated cost for each rotation (e.g. travel, accommodation, etc.), as
well as a brief plan of study/interests for your final year at AVC
(anticipated benefits of the experience(s).

· The John and Carol MacLeod Externship Award is an award which will
be given annually to a third-year student in veterinary medicine who
demonstrates interest in the husbandry and well being of domestic small
ruminants (sheep, goats, camelids, cervidae) or food animals, and who
intends to engage in an external elective during their senior year outside
of Atlantic Canada (or their home State) that has a small ruminant or food
animal emphasis. This award is valued at $1,000 and will be presented at
AVC’s Fall Recognition Night during your final year of study (October,
2019). To assist in the selection process for this award, interested
students are asked to submit a brief letter (one page maximum) of their
proposed external in small ruminant or food animal rotation and indicate
why they should be considered for this award. At a minimum this letter
should include: a) Experience with small ruminants or food animals (e.g.,
pre-veterinary experience, summer jobs, course selections) and other
evidence of interest in, and commitment to, small ruminants or food animals
(e.g., academic performance in relevant courses, participation in related
club activities). b) The likely geographic location and length of the
planned rotation, estimated cost of the rotation (e.g. travel,
accommodation, etc.), as well as a brief plan of study for the rotation.

· The Elanco Canada Externship Award is an award given annually to a
third-year student in veterinary medicine demonstrating interest and/or
commitment to aquaculture and willingness to engage in an external elective
during their senior year outside of Atlantic Canada in the area of aquatic
animal health. This award is valued at $2,500 and will be presented at
AVC’s Fall awards and Recognition Night during your final year of study
(October, 2019). To assist in the selection process for this award,
interested students are asked to submit a brief outline of their proposed
external rotations in aquatic animal health. At a minimum this should
include the geographic location and length of the rotation, estimated cost
of the rotation (e.g. travel, accommodation, etc.), as well as a brief plan
of study for the rotation.

All submissions should be emailed to Karen Roche kroche at upei.ca or dropped
off at the office of Academic & Student Affairs, 205S by 4:00 pm by Friday,
