*Accreditation Update*

The AVMA Council on Education Accreditation Site Visit will occur *September
17 through the 21 *here at AVC. During that week you may notice the Site
Visit Team touring the college or meeting with various groups in room 286A.
Your Class Presidents will be conducting a class vote to ratify the
students who have volunteered to meet with the Site Visit Team during that
week (some classes have done this already).

All students have access to the AVC Accreditation Self Study Report and the
AVC Strategic Plan on E*Value in the Resources section for tour information.

*Testing Accommodations*

Students with documented disabilities need to register with UPEI
Accessibility Services if they wish to request testing accommodations.
Students must contact Michelle McCormick in Student Affairs at (902) 566
0488 <(902)%20566-0488>or studentserv at upei.ca to make an appointment with
the Accessibility Services Coordinator, Nicole Wadden Garland. Please do
this as soon as possible to ensure that all documentation is in place prior
to midterms so that you can receive your accommodations.

If you are not sure if you have a disability, or if you may be eligible for
testing accommodations, please make an appointment with the coordinator to
discuss your situation.

*Personal Items in Classrooms*

As the semester gets underway, the ASA Office wanted to remind new and
returning students that class, club or personal items may NOT be stored in
lecture theatres, but instead, should be taken home, stored in lockers, or
kept in designated class/club storage spaces. Please refer to the Use of
Teaching Space and Equipment Policy for details. Improperly stored items
will be periodically gathered and briefly stored, by the Dean’s Office,
before being disposed of.

It is perfectly acceptable to leave your personal items (bags, purses,
coffee mugs, laptops, etc.) in the theatres in between consecutive classes,
but please remove all such items if there is a break in your schedule, over
the lunch hour, and at the end of each day. Other groups on campus and in
the community book these teaching spaces so it is critical that personal
items are not left behind. In addition, Facilities Management staff members
need to clean the theatres and their efforts are hampered if personal items
are cluttering the space.

*Parking Permits*

Parking enforcement begins on *Wednesday September 6* so please make sure
you purchase a pass before then if you plan to park a vehicle on campus.

Until September 18, students can purchase permits at the Parking Kiosk
located on the main level of the W.A. Murphy Student Centre between 9:00 am
to 3:30 pm. After September 18, remaining permits will be available for
purchase from the Facilities Management Office (in the Central Utility
Building) from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm weekdays or until permits sell out.

*UPEI Student Union Health Insurance Opt Out Deadline*

Students may opt out of your UPEI SU insurance plan before *September 29*.
For information about your plan coverage, or opting out, visit
upeisu.ca/services or contact Candice Heigh at admin at upeisu.ca or (902)
566-0530.

*Old Security Cards*

For returning students with grey or white security cards, which are now
inactive, please drop them off in the Office of Academic and Student
Affairs. Thank you!

*T-shirts available for purchase for Ora**nge Shirt Day *

Orange Shirt Day <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-sZ4cqO5kZo> occurs
annually at the end of each September, the time of year when Indigenous
children were taken away from their homes and put into residential schools.
Phyllis Wedstad was one such child. As a young child on her first day at
residential school, Phyllis’ favourite orange shirt was promptly taken from
her upon her arrival at the school. Her language and pride in her culture
was also taken from her. Orange Shirt Day has been created to honour of
Phyllis, and the many other children who attended residential schools. More
information on this day can be found online at www.orangeshirtday.org.

This year on *September 29, 2017*, the Faculty of Education is encouraging
all students, staff, and faculty to wear orange as an annual opportunity to
discuss aspects of residential schools, and to continue discussions
year-round. In the coming weeks, you will see posters and other promotional
materials around campus to help promote this day.

Our faculty, as allies, have worked alongside our Indigenous friends both
on and off-campus in support of this day and in the design of orange
t-shirts specifically for Orange Shirt Day (see attached photo). *We would
like to give everyone the opportunity to order shirts and join this
important movement. *

The cost of each t-shirt is $10.00 and can be ordered in sizes XXS to XXL.
If your faculty, or you as an individual, is interested in ordering
t-shirts, please let us know and we would be happy to coordinate your
order. The* deadline to order will be September 6, 2017*, to ensure they
arrive on time.

*Please email Anja Salijevic at **asalijevic at upei.ca* <asalijevic at upei.ca>* to
place your order *and state the quantity and t-shirt size in your email.

Thank you for your support in bringing awareness to Orange Shirt Day we
hope that many of you will participate in wearing orange!
